Frank Grisdale is an Alberta based landscape photographer working in the impressionist style. Grisdale has distilled vast and dynamic landscapes into simple evocations of color and form that are painterly in expression. They are soft, focused, quiet, and reduced to the barest of simple elements.
Most of Frank's ethereal effects are the product of intense on-site experimentation and massive after-the-fact editing of the exposures generated in each field session. The unique look of his images are often created by longer than normal exposures without benefit of a tripod, a strategy that radically embraces ambient camera movement. This approach focuses on line, color, and composition while reducing detail.
