Gavin Lynch: Land of the Midnight Sun

4 - 20 May 2017

... Among these landscapes, various itemized mementos are presented: Human skulls, a deadly Amanita muscaria, andan ominous raven suspended in dark sky. These works – figures which operate on the ground of the landscapes, if you will – dilate a sense of human mortality. They are traces of our  involvement with a nature – a nature that pulls flesh from skull, tempts the palate with luscious ground-fruit, and shows us symbols in its sky. Perhaps the message common to all of them is to regard our place and its history with careful attention, and to appreciate more the land which has hosted us, and will continue to host us, in any and all of our errant or noble pursuits.
