Friends and the Love of Art
We are thrilled to announce an exceptionally special upcoming exhibition. This show beautifully unites the works of two of Canada's esteemed Saskatchewan artists, Joe Fafard and Wilf Perreault. It also serves as a celebration of Doug Udell's significant contributions to the art scene, whose gallery graced the space we currently occupy for over three decades.
During its long history of promoting fine art in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver, the Douglas Udell Gallery proudly showcased the works of both Joe and Wilf. Although we sadly lost Joe Fafard in 2019, we have had the privilege of working closely with his wife, Alyce Hamon and the team at Fafard Sculpture Inc. to curate an exceptional collection of his pieces for this exhibition.
A key inspiration for this show was Wilf Perreault's long-held desire to exhibit his paintings alongside the sculptures of his dear friend, Joe Fafard—an artistic pairing that, remarkably, never came to fruition during their lifetimes. We are deeply honoured to present this exhibition as a tribute to fine art and, more importantly, to enduring friendships. We sincerely hope you will be able to join us.
Best Regards,
Peter Robertson
"The exhibition celebrates the friendship of Doug Udell, Joe Fafard, Wilf Perreault and Peter Robertson.
Their journey together began in the 1970’s when Joe and Wilf were showing at the Downstairs Gallery - Doug’s gallery in Edmonton. Subsequent to Doug’s retirement, his gallery location on 124 Street continues to house an art gallery under the current ownership of Peter and Camille Robertson.
This show of artwork by Joe and Wilf observes Doug’s wish that their work be exhibited in his former space. The friendships have been a blessing. " - Wilf Perreault, 2025
