I have been engrained in the genre of appropriation for many years. It has allowed me the opportunity to vigorously investigate and revisit the vast history of art that I continue to circumnavigate within a contemporary context. During the creation of each work I am attempting to understand the tension within the relationship between our contemporary culture and its historical equivalent.

The middle component of each painting is the ‘resting point’. These image fragments, appropriated from historical paintings, represent a timeless and powerful presence, placed into a contemporary world that leaves a somewhat tumultuous place for them. Within the actual works they are ‘locked’ or ‘squeezed’ between colour fields of aggressive colour and texture and found objects.
