Alice Teichert is a multidisciplinary artist. Her practice includes painting, two and three
dimensional text work, printmaking and sound performance. All disciplines inform her visual
poetry.
Born in Paris, raised in a multi-lingual environment of the European Communities in Brussels,
Teichert studied music, philosophy, visual poetry, visual arts, and printmaking in Belgium and
France.
Her interest in North American Abstract Painting led her to the pursuit of her independent
studies in New York and Toronto, where she settled in 1984. There, she benefited from regular
studio visits from New York art critics Clement Greenberg, Karen Wilkin and Kenworth Moffett,
who continued to take note of her work.
Since 1989, she has built an international career with over 30 solo exhibitions in France,
Canada, Switzerland, Germany and Australia. Noted for their holographic depth,
her paintings are known for their bold colours and for their multi-layered of transparent and
translucent glazes, which are interspersed with script-like lines and enigmatic drawings.
Teichert’s works are held in many private and corporate collections worldwide, and in public
institutions that include the MacLaren Art Centre (Canada), Global Affairs Canada, the Musée
de la Ville de Valence (France) and the Museumsquartier of Lübeck (Germany).
Teichert is known for collaborating with musicians and digital media artists, whereby her
text’painting composition s’pos)in( was transposed into live multimedia sound performances.
A monograph authored by Dagmar Täube, titled In)Formation - On the Philosophy and Art of
Alice Teichert - bi-lingual edition ( English-German ) was been published in 2017 by Hirmer
Publishers, Münich, Germany.
In 2023, Teichert is presenting a survey exhibition titled RECIPROCITY at the Art Gallery of
Peterborough, Ontario, from May to October. Highlighting the ongoing presence of “the double
page” this exhibition comprises a selection of works from 1983 to 2023, chosen by the curator
Fynn Leitch and Alice Teichert, including a site specific open book installation which Teichert
created in collaboration with artist Dian Carlo. A catalog of the exhibition will be forthcoming.
Alice Teichert works from her studio in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. Teichert has been working
with the Peter Robertson Gallery since 2007.
