“Dance like no one is watching...”
The paintings in CHROMA | POP are part of my ongoing fascination with the intrinsic relationship between music and painting. For me, the paintings in this exhibition are a visual representation of my studio music playlist. A list of songs that some may find good and others may find to be of questionable quality; it all depends on your taste in music.
Through these paintings, I explore pop songs, from the 60s to the present with particular interest in classic songs being reimagined by contemporary musicians. Paintings begin without a definitive plan, instead they rely on inspiration and guidance from the elements that music shares with painting - mood, rhythm, harmony, and tone to name a few. The genres of music represented in this exhibition are varied, covering everything from Funk to Punk, R&B to Jazz, and everything in between. Each provides a catalyst to explore music through the language of painting.
