"For over 6 decades, my practice has been rooted in an ongoing dialogue between wandering the land and making art. To move through landscapes is to inhabit the present moment completely -an active engagement where observation and creation blur, keeping curiosity alive and loneliness at bay. For me, observation, drawing, and painting are fundamental ways of thinking; physical registers of how I feel before, during, and after a mark is made. The boundary lies between being in the land and then the studio, which has been continuous. The act of drawing has been an important link that grounds the work. I view art making not as a search for polished, acceptable art but to step into flux and an unknown territory of making mistakes time after time, breaking through habits to reveal unexpected results and paths. This is another way of paying attention rather than an occupation; there is nothing to retire from-only an endless return to the next mark. This dialogue for me results in a way for me to continue to make art that changes, moves on. " - DTA, 2026
